After the passing of her grandfather a year and a half ago, Nina came into possession of a large amount of old family photographs. Here’s what she had to say about them:
When my grandfather passed away a year and a half ago, I suddenly found myself in the possession of a whole bunch of our family photos. There are stacks and stacks of neatly organized memories, some of which I’m about to share with you. It’s so strange to look back at these mementos and think about the stories behind them. Some of the people I can recognize and others I have no clue about, but all of them are in some way connected to my grandparents. My favorites are the more candid ones, a fairly uncommon thing for photos in that time.
My grandmother, as a little girl and more the way I remember her.
My grandparents. Aww…..
The note on the side says this was taken in The Crimea, 1938.
Grandma looking cute!
My grandmother was an art director for a magazine, so she was pretty creative. All the drawings and this newspaper collage are by her, who is also on the right in the next photo.
This photo makes me laugh. It’s like it’s from a Lassie type show.
The next one definitely one of the weirder photos. How do you even begin to understand this?
On the right is my mom as a little girl on the first day of school, and a teenager on the left. I wore the same exact style of school uniform when I started school as well.
Funerals, like weddings today, were a time for the family to take a group photo.
In the background of these photos is a large building. There are seven of these around Moscow, and I think this one is the university. It looks pretty much the same today.
The next one is probably my favorite photo of the bunch. Just a laid back scene, reading the paper.
How awesome is that car!
Moscow – Sochi Express.
Check out the rad background here.
The building in the background here is the same building I grew up in also.
Another totally weird photo.
My great grandmother was an aerospace engineer, but I’m not sure what the gathering below is about.
Yup, that’s totally eyeliner on the guy. I’m not sure if it’s actually a movie star photo or just somebody pretending to be a movie star, but the photo looks like just an average photo.
I think this is a drawing of the guy above, by my grandmother.
This is like a movie still. I think it’s probably taken on the train heading to the country house.
It might just be me, but doesn’t the guy on the left kind of look like Jimmy Kimmel?
I think the guy in the center with the white beard is my great great grandfather. He’s pictured with his children and grandchildren.
My mom as a teen. When she saw this picture she remembered a big crush she had on the boy on the right.
My grandfather was stationed in Kamchatka for a while, and I guess at the time there was a volcano eruption so he got these great shots.
When I was little, this is exactly how imagined all mountains looked.
I do believe these two ladies are flirting with my grandfather.
My grandfather on television. Ooohh…
