5 Tips For Choosing An Engagement Photo Location

July 1, 2016 July 20, 2017 From the Hip Photo3 comments3149 views

So the big question has finally been popped! Hooray, you’re engaged! But now you’re probably dealing with a lot of other questions. Wedding decorations, dates, themes, guest lists, venues… We know for a fact that it can be seriously overwhelming. Lucky for you, From the Hip Photo is here to help! First things first: engagement photos. And first first things first: the engagement photo location. We’ve put together a quick little list of five tips and tricks to help you decide on the perfect engagement photo location, so you can check the very first thing off your long list of “I do” ‘to-dos’!

1. Consider Aesthetics

One of the most obvious important aspects of a great engagement photo location is a big hearty helping of beauty! We here at From the Hip Photo can absolutely attest to the fact that a gorgeous couple looks even better against a gorgeous background. If a location doesn’t jump at you right away, do some thinking about whether you might want to throw some seriously stunning mountain vistas or super sleek skyscrapers into the background of your engagement photos.

2. Follow A Theme

Will your wedding be modern and artistic? Maybe take some engagement photos at a cleanly designed gallery space. Going for a rustic feel? Try some outdoorsy shots! If you’re planning on using these photos for your invitations or save the dates, this could really make everything cohesive. Or head in the complete other direction for oppositive styles – rustic, flower-filled engagement photos with dark, urban wedding photos. Engagement photos can be the perfect preview for your big day, so following a theme can really tie the whole experience together!

3. Add Some Personality

For intimate and meaningful photos, reflect on your couple character. What kind of unique personality does your relationship have? Are you outdoor enthusiasts? A sunrise hike to Lookout Mountain could be perfect! Are you picnic lovers? Why not pack a lunch and find a sweet secluded spot! Anything that brings out the unique aspects of your relationship will translate perfectly into adorable and genuine engagement photos!

4. Choose Somewhere Significant

Consider a place that’s important to you as a couple. Maybe it’s the coffee shop where you had your first date. Maybe it’s the park where you shared your first kiss. Maybe it’s your very own home, where the two of you get to do life together every single day! Locations that already remind you of some happy memories are sure to make for some picture-perfect candids. If the place you first said “I love you” is just as beautiful as it is meaningful, your search might be over!

5.  Be Creative

Finally, creativity. One of our all-time favorite things! Creativity goes a long way when it comes to engagement photos. Whether you try a unique angle, outfit or pose, being out-of-the-box is key. We especially love when couples choose to include what’s most important to them, such as their children (furry or otherwise)! We truly want these photos to be just as unique as your relationship, so try your best to get personal and creative in your choices!

Pro Tip!

Be sure to bring that fancy new ring so your photographer can capture your stunning stone! And remember, while finding the perfect engagement photo location may seem like a huge headache right now, it’s all about relaxing and having fun with your fiancé. And we’re gonna let you in on one last little secret: lots of love will pop in front of any backdrop!

I agree that you should always consider the aesthetics in your photos. You also mention that if a great scene doesn’t jump out at you, think of some ahead of time in the area that you’re shooting. I think it’s a good idea to check out the photographer’s website to see if their style looks good to you.
