A piggyback ride and some monkey-ing around never hurt anybody! In fact, it’s goofy moments like those that bring a family together and make life sweet. Bethany and Joe’s family photo session at Meyer Ranch Park in Morrison, Colorado was anything but boring and serious. This family of four is just about as cute as it gets! The Location Meyer Ranch Park, as these photos prove, is not only a breathtaking outdoor location among changing fall leaves. This 624-acre park has 4.1 trail miles for walkers, hikers, bikers, and horse riders. Filled with aspen groves and pine forests, this place is sure to fill your lungs with crisp fall air and shadowy soft light. Goofy Games Given these fun outdoor features this park has to offer, it’s no surprise we were excited to join Bethany and Joe and their two children in the park for some picture-worthy shenanigans. If there’s one thing parents love most, it’s the sound of their children’s laughter. Bethany and Joe’s daughter and son were giggle monsters the entire time. Mom’s tickle fights and Dad’s upside down games are sure to make anyone laugh uncontrollably! While we swooned over this family’s silly fun, we couldn’t help
When Annie and Adam asked us to capture their family photos, we jumped at the opportunity -- especially since the session was in their backyard!! If one thing is for certain, we are entirely obsessed with this personal backyard session with this family of five, and we are so excited to share these photos with you! The Backyard Bunch This awesome family’s backyard looked absolutely spectacular in the November sun! We utilized the fresh outside air and their Japanese architecture to get some incredible fall shots. Their stunning Japanese engawa porch framed the family just right, giving both a backdrop and a little taste of their family personality. These guys really know how to play with color, too. While nature’s trees exploded in yellows, reds, and oranges, the family wore deep blues and blacks for a contrasting effect. Mom and dad beamed in each other’s arms, and when the time came to bring their kids in, everyone looked both related and painfully beautiful. One thing’s for sure: the good genes stayed in the family! While mom and dad looked lovely, the three kids were just as sweet and likable as their parents. The family dog, Bruce Lee, even made a few
Do you want to take some family photos but are worried how the pictures will turn out? Are you stressed about trying to organize a family of five, six, seven or more into a balanced and good-looking photo? Have no fear! We have some tips for photographing a big family! Balance is Key If you only absorb one thing from this post, remember this: it’s all about balance, balance, balance! The perfect picture — no matter if it’s a portrait, a landscape, or anything in between — must look balanced and equalized. The human eye likes symmetry and stability. Basically, we don’t like to look at something that’s a little off or tilted. Because balance is key, it’s important to know that you can balance your pictures in a variety of ways. Color scheme, levels, and varied body positions all can be toyed with to make things look a little more clean-cut and equalized. This family helps us make our case with their family photo shoot at Denver’s Millennium Bridge! With a family of six, you can imagine it can be a little tricky to organize this crew into some organized pictures. However, our job was not as difficult as
From photographing their engagement to their wedding, we have made a great friendship with these two! Now it’s three years since their engagement, and they are back with a baby bump! Alexandra and Noam are expecting, and we went to photograph their maternity photos at Lost Gulch Overlook! Look Who’s Back, Back Again! Lost Gulch Overlook near Boulder is a frequent spot for us for so many reasons. As you can see from all our other Lost Gulch photo sessions, this spot is ideal for any occasion! Colorado mountain views? Check. Sunrise and sunset glows? Check. Wooded hideaways? Also check. No matter the time of year or the occasion, Lost Gulch is kind of our not-so-secret spot, and Alexandra and Noam were the perfect subjects! Who would have thought that when we photographed their engagement and wedding back in 2015 that we would be on top of a mountain helping celebrate their coming baby? These two are due in September of this year, and their excitement is more than evident. Eager with kisses and genuine in laughter, Alexandra and Noam clearly can’t wait to meet this little one in person. Best Dressed While there is a lot on the worldwide
With June comes vibrant colors and bursting blooms at every turn. With June comes summertime and brighter days. We thoroughly enjoyed shooting a Botanic family photo with the Spraco family at the Denver Botanic Gardens on a cheerful summer day! As you'd expect, this location is quite ideal for any photo shoot – especially one with an adorable family of three! A Year-Round Attraction! Located in the heart of Denver, the Denver Botanic Gardens is popular for its beautiful botanic displays, concerts, and event venue space. It is constantly changing its exhibitions and artwork, and it often has new events on the calendar open to the public! The Botanic Gardens even has winter light displays when vegetation is hibernating and Denverites are bundling up! Spraco Spunk There was no bundling up needed when we joined the Spraco family to take their pictures, though! These three had us gleefully dizzy with vibrant oranges, reds, and blues. Mom looked elegant in her flowing dress and heels. Dad and son looked dashingly handsome in their classy button shirts. A perfect meld between his parents, this boy’s plaid shirt helped make some adorable pictures with Mom and Dad! This little boy was sweet and
As if taking pictures of happy families and smiling babies weren't precious enough, try adding special guests and props to your photo session for an even more adorable and personalized flare! With dogs, baby science books and (our favorite) a stuffed fox animal, the Jackson family proved undoubtedly unique in their family photos at Bluff Lake! If you haven't guessed, we loved capturing every second of this cute family session! The Jackson 5 You might be thinking the famous American family music group, and this Jackson 5 is counting their ABC's as well... with their littlest addition! The Jackson family’s newest member turned one in August 2017, and we were honored to help this family celebrate! She had plenty of entertainment to keep her busy. Tiny toes and an obvious love of life had us gushing with “awww’s” over this previous toddler. The Jacksons are no ordinary bunch. Two massive dogs, Albert and Madison, made the best snuggle buddies. Plus, Grandpa was there for some cuddles as well! This blue-eyed beauty surely has all the love she’ll ever need in this family! She has all the genius potential as well. For example, a Quantum Physics for Babies book by Chris Ferrie made the trip, and this
On a radiant summer day, we went with the Winters Family to South Platte Park and Carson Nature Center. We love a good family photo shoot – especially when it involves a doggo and some cute kiddos! This park is perfect especially on a summer day, and we loved exploring this new location with the Winters for a beautiful summer session! New Adventures As adventure junkies who are always hungry for new inspiration, we enjoyed getting to know this family and this new location close to home! South Platte Park and Carson Nature Center is an 880-acre open space along the South Platte River in Littleton, Colorado. This place has got it all: hiking trails, walking trails, and a reservoir for all kinds of water activities like kayaking, fishing, and paddle boarding! Over the (South Platte) river and through the woods we chased light with Mom, Dad, their three boys, and their adorable 8-year-old bulldog, Sasha Grace. The three Winters boys looked like dapper young men in pastel-colored shirts and patterned neckties. Mom and Dad had outfits to match, and the whole crew looked as happy as spring itself! Really, you can do wonderful, creative things with lighting. Check out what
Octobers are for bursting colors on trees, hot tea cuddled under a blanket, and your favorite flannel and jean combo. Octobers, though, can also be for family outings for that perfect picture. We went to Meyer Ranch Park for the Grimes family photos among the yellow aspen trees. We loved capturing this family not only because of their amiable personalities and kindness, but also because they brought along two of our favorite things: an adorable little boy and dog! Something New: Meyer Ranch Park! One look at this location and you’re sure to be hooked. Meyer Ranch Park gave us the perfect blanket of fallen leaves and a most stunning backdrop of fall colors. Located just outside of Morrison, Colorado, this park proved both beautiful and peacefully quiet. We loved getting to know this new location full of aspen trees and cozy trails. As with most photo-shoots in the fall, we recommend wearing autumn-colored outfits with darker, moodier tones. Check out our post here about how to plan your family picture outfits! But, as these pictures will show you, any outfit will work with cheek-wide smiles and a few hugs and kisses! It's All Fun and Games! The Grimes’ baby boy really
If there’s anything cuter than a baby with perfectly pinchable cheeks, it’s one with a fedora and a matching t-shirt with dad! We spent the day with Emily and Nick at their Lookout Mountain family photo session, and boy was this day something we won’t forget! Dad’s fun-loving attitude and Mom’s sweet nose-boops and tummy tickles made this family so enjoyable to work with, and we couldn’t be happier with how these photos turned out! Fedora-ble! This kid is ready to strut down any runway with his dapper hat and a button-down shirt. Not to mention this guy has bright blue eyes and such pinchable cheeks! He is undeniably the most adorable member of the family, and Mom and Dad proudly hugged their little man. While Emily and Nick’s kisses kept this little guy happy, we couldn’t get over dad and son’s t-shirts that referenced the 1993 movie, The Sandlot. With nonchalant pride, the little man’s shirt said “Smalls” while Dad’s read “You’re killing me, Smalls.” Talk about applicable and hilarious! A Location for All Occasions! While this sweet family made our jobs easy with their fun-loving disposition, their soft color scheme and Mom’s springy shirt looked stunning against the Lookout Mountain backdrops
No photographer wants his or her subjects to look too staged, so casual and natural is always the goal for portraits. Members of the Stalling family were more than casual and natural – they were one of the most entertaining and lovable bunches we’ve ever had! On a glorious day, we captured their family photos at Wash Park, and we had so much fun! Family Fun! Siblings and cousins, parents and grandparents all huddled closely and giggled with every hug and nudge. While we of course captured some traditional photos of each family with poised smiles, we are never ones to pass up a “silly picture” – or multiple! The sisters nudged and embraced each other playfully, and their cousin even joined the goofiness! Mom and Dad were not afraid to join the fun either, and sweet smiles quickly evolved into outright laughter. Even Grandma and Grandpa proudly cuddled their family. Based on Grandma and Grandpa's genuine smiles, it is clear where the Stalling family got its zest for life! A Picnic in the Park Washington Park, as it turned out, was the perfect November spot for this photoshoot! Not only does this park offer everything from playgrounds to
