When we began our photography journey a decade ago, we didn’t realize how connected we would become to so many families. How many couples we’d see go from a dynamic duo to a growing family. The children we’d get to catch up with regularly, from baby blankets to first steps to first days of school.
We talk a lot about how much fun we have at every photo session and how much we love watching your family grow, but only because it’s true. It’s a special gift, one of the many perks of pursuing our passion each day.
And over those ten years, our own family has grown, too. Professionally and personally, our team here has had engagements, weddings, and in the case of From the Hip’s founders, a couple of sweet daughters. It’s allowed us to experience what things feel like from our families’ perspective when we get some time in front of the lens.
One of Our Own Family Photo Stories
When Danny and Nina moved to Denver from Brooklyn back at the start of 2007, it was an adventure in many ways. For Danny in particular, it was the first time in his life to really connect with mountain landscapes and snowy winters. Over the years, they’ve made it a point to bring different elements of the Colorado landscape into their own family photo shoots: festive fall foliage; urban art-filled alleyways; and most recently, some snow day hijinks.
It’s Always a Great Day for Photos
We sometimes get special requests from our families and couples to set up a session on a snow afternoon, something which always excites us. It’s a playful change of pace to get bundled up and head out for icy exploits. Plus, we’ve found that kids of a certain age (and dogs of pretty much any age) especially enjoy photo time amid the flurries. The look a snowy landscape evokes is serene and presents a nice contrast to the energy and vibrance kids bring to the mix.
For this session, Danny and Nina brought their four and six year old daughters just down the creek from our headquarters at Stanley Marketplace. It was special to incorporate these familiar surroundings into photos which will be cherished for years to come, preserving not just this special time in the girls’ lives but also the setting which is such a part of their day to day routine.
Their daughters felt so much joy tossing fistfuls of snow up into the sky and trying their best to pull their parents along in their sled. It was a fantastic reminder of how these moments get to live on for all of our families. Even though the photo session only lasts an hour, the images themselves endure as a reminder of all the fun for years to come.
