One of our favorite things in the world is traveling. Whether that be to another country, state, or even a few hours away to a remote Rocky Mountain National Park town, it doesn’t make a difference to us. When the opportunity arises to do a photo shoot in a new place, we pounce on it! The adrenaline and excitement of hopping on a plane, train, or automobile is so much better than any double black diamond ski slope. We couldn’t have been more excited about this fashion shoot falling into our lap at the last minute! Plus, we got a little glimpse into what Miami beach fashion looks like! Considering we’re based in Colorado, a bikini in any month that doesn’t start with a “Ju” or an “A” is unheard of.
We were in Miami for a few other photo sessions and took on an assignment to work with Serena of Wilhelmina Models Miami. We shot at the Mondrian Hotel.
Like most South Beach hotels, the Mondrian does not disappoint! The staircase, seemingly crocheted out of black steel into a chic paisley print, is the focal point of the foyer. It leads out to the pool deck, decorated with stark black and white rugs, plus an array of tropical plants. There is a whimsical aspect to the archlike grottos by the pool. Lush greenery paired with chandeliers made from small, white baubles form an inviting, secluded row. To make the setting even more beautiful, the pool deck overlooks the nearby marina. Much like the late artist, with whom the hotel shares a name, the size of the decorative elements used are playfully spatial.
Inside, the bar is dwarfed by giant, golden bell chandeliers suspended from the second story. Their color added a contrasting element to Serena’s outfit and the steel staircase. Serena’s wardrobe is her own, as are those fierce looks! She started with a black, low back halter and a light wash, distressed pair of jeans. She added a simple pair of nude heels for a very sophisticated outfit. Much like the golden bells, her pale yellow bikini added a nice little pop of color. Very Piet Mondrian if you ask us!
It’s not every day that From The Hip Photo gets escorted out of a snazzy hotel in Miami, but we’d be lying if we said we regret it. Serena was very fun to work with and she had a great Miami beach fashion sense. We wish her all the best in her future modeling endeavors!
