Lauren and Thomas had an exceptional Devil’s Thumb wedding that was everything unique. With our love of color and our unapologetically enthusiastic personality, we are a unique company in the truest sense of the phrase. We love encouraging couples, families, and companies alike to live authentically. Even more, we love photographing that authenticity!
On a radiant summer day, we went with the Winters Family to South Platte Park and Carson Nature Center. We love a good family photo shoot – especially when it involves a doggo and some cute kiddos! This park is perfect especially on a summer day, and we loved exploring this new location with the Winters for a beautiful summer session! New Adventures As adventure junkies who are always hungry for new inspiration, we enjoyed getting to know this family and this new location close to home! South Platte Park and Carson Nature Center is an 880-acre open space along the South Platte River in Littleton, Colorado. This place has got it all: hiking trails, walking trails, and a reservoir for all kinds of water activities like kayaking, fishing, and paddle boarding! Over the (South Platte) river and through the woods we chased light with Mom, Dad, their three boys, and their adorable 8-year-old bulldog, Sasha Grace. The three Winters boys looked like dapper young men in pastel-colored shirts and patterned neckties. Mom and Dad had outfits to match, and the whole crew looked as happy as spring itself! Really, you can do wonderful, creative things with lighting. Check out what
If there’s one thing we do best it's photography in Colorado. We have the tips, the tricks, and the secret spots that people absolutely love! So, when Gianna and Jason asked us to photograph their Lost Gulch Overlook sunrise engagement photos, we had to say yes! Especially since it was a sunrise engagement session (our favorite as of late)! Look Who’s Back – Back Again! Lost Gulch Overlook is one of our favorite locations because it offers numerous landscapes and absolutely breathtaking Colorado vistas for any occasion. Located on Flagstaff Mountain in beautiful Boulder, Colorado, it has mountainous terrain that stretches for miles, catches sunlight just right, and is easily accessible despite its high-up views. Not only are pets allowed, but the entry fee is as little as $5! We love this place so much we’ve even written a Lost Gulch Overlook guide to help you make the most of your session with us! The Whole Package! Not only did Gianna and Jason reap the benefits of this breathtaking location, but their outfits and, well, they themselves, were right on point! Beacause this altitudinous point showcases Colorado’s greens and blues, neutral tones always work well here. Jason’s white and tan combo made him
Question: what’s better than breathtaking Colorado engagement photos? Answer: an engagement session with one of our very own! Corianne, a beloved and past From the Hip studio manager, and her fiancée Kristopher invited us to photograph their engagement photos at Rocky Mountain National Park. Rocky Mountain Fever We love building relationships with every couple or family that we photograph, but it’s even more fun to capture the personalities and quirks of two good friends! These two artistic souls looked practically perfect against this national park’s mountainous vistas and shimmering lakes on a May day. Their love was more than obvious, and their appreciation of Colorado was clear, too! Rocky Mountain National Park’s 415 square miles include alpine adventures galore like trails, wildlife, starry skies, and peaceful camp spots. Its popularity among natives and tourists alike make it one of the most visited spots of our state. Located near Estes Park, Colorado, Rocky Mountain National Park is surely stunning at all times of the year with either walls of snow or swaths of colorful trees. Check out our other Rocky Mountain National Park engagement sessions with Rachel and Hunter and Amy and Matt. High on Love – and Altitude Corianne and

The Man concert and MCA's delicious beefsteak dinner. Let us be the first to say that the Octopus Initiative's
Octobers are for bursting colors on trees, hot tea cuddled under a blanket, and your favorite flannel and jean combo. Octobers, though, can also be for family outings for that perfect picture. We went to Meyer Ranch Park for the Grimes family photos among the yellow aspen trees. We loved capturing this family not only because of their amiable personalities and kindness, but also because they brought along two of our favorite things: an adorable little boy and dog! Something New: Meyer Ranch Park! One look at this location and you’re sure to be hooked. Meyer Ranch Park gave us the perfect blanket of fallen leaves and a most stunning backdrop of fall colors. Located just outside of Morrison, Colorado, this park proved both beautiful and peacefully quiet. We loved getting to know this new location full of aspen trees and cozy trails. As with most photo-shoots in the fall, we recommend wearing autumn-colored outfits with darker, moodier tones. Check out our post here about how to plan your family picture outfits! But, as these pictures will show you, any outfit will work with cheek-wide smiles and a few hugs and kisses! It's All Fun and Games! The Grimes’ baby boy really
Not too long ago we went with Katy and Dan to Lost Gulch Overlook to capture their maternity photos against Colorado’s kaleidoscope sunset skies. Then, a few months later we got to take the camera from Katy’s cute bump to this couple’s bundle of joy. We absolutely loved capturing photos of their baby girl at their home. Katy & Dan are clearly thrilled and excited to be parents! Nursery Knickknacks Katy & Dan, like many parents with their swoon-worthy infants, chose to utilize their own home for the setting of their photo shoot. In-home photography sessions are comfortable, sweet, and something you can cherish on your wall or bedside table no matter where you live or travel. Check out 6 Tips for Parents for a Successful Newborn Photo Session for inspiration! Katy & Dan’s newborn daughter looked like an angel surrounded by white bedding and walls decorated with subtle charms. Her bedroom was home to countless mementos of the past and tidbits of her future. For example, her hospital band sat beside an image of her beautiful, pregnant mother at Lost Gulch. Tastes of wood and greenery from succulents brightened the space alongside this girl's already large collection of books. What
This wedding swept us right off our feet, and we’re still recovering! Lauren and Phil’s August wedding at Crooked Willow Farms was something out of a Cinderella story, and we never wanted to wake up from this fairytale! With August right around the corner, we thought we'd share last year's August dream wedding we are still not over! A Rustic Venue Crooked Willow Farms in Larkspur, Colorado will give you the rustic feel and rural location you’re looking for. (Check out the other events we've covered there!). It has a gorgeous outdoor ceremony area with a view of the beloved Rocky Mountains. The indoor space is perfect for a reception where your guests can dance the night away. As expected, Lauren and Phil’s wedding decorations fit right in with this dreamy venue. Hanging lights and mason jars alongside blue tablecloths gave the space a magical vibe for the evening party. Based on some amazing candid shots we got, the guests sure had a good time! A Cinderella Story Their guests laughed and boogied until long after the clock struck midnight, and Lauren and Phil wore their giddy, “just-married” faces all night. Lauren looked radiant in her fitted and light pink
“Pretty in pink” and “cute as a button” both have truth to them, and this couple’s newborn daughter, Mia, fit these phrases to a “T.” We felt so lucky to help these two parents photograph their in-home newborn session. The shoot was full of personal touches and comical costumes, and we truly loved every second! Pretty in Pink! In-home newborn sessions are bound to be heartwarming and special. As parents, you can pick your favorite spots, showcase adorable nurseries and bedrooms, and jump indoors and outdoors! Mia looked adorably smug no matter where she was – as long as she remained in her mom or dad’s arms! Check out many of our other in-home sessions and tips here! When we say “pretty in pink” we mean this little girl looked oh-so pretty in her pink blanket and floral headband. She rocked other colors like teal and purple as well. Altogether, Mia’s pinks and teals against Mom, Dad, and Grandma’s blues and pinks made the perfect summer color scheme for this photo shoot. The outside sunlight looked just as good as the white walls of the nursery, and Mia’s sweet eyes and yawns made her a natural in front of the
If there’s anything cuter than a baby with perfectly pinchable cheeks, it’s one with a fedora and a matching t-shirt with dad! We spent the day with Emily and Nick at their Lookout Mountain family photo session, and boy was this day something we won’t forget! Dad’s fun-loving attitude and Mom’s sweet nose-boops and tummy tickles made this family so enjoyable to work with, and we couldn’t be happier with how these photos turned out! Fedora-ble! This kid is ready to strut down any runway with his dapper hat and a button-down shirt. Not to mention this guy has bright blue eyes and such pinchable cheeks! He is undeniably the most adorable member of the family, and Mom and Dad proudly hugged their little man. While Emily and Nick’s kisses kept this little guy happy, we couldn’t get over dad and son’s t-shirts that referenced the 1993 movie, The Sandlot. With nonchalant pride, the little man’s shirt said “Smalls” while Dad’s read “You’re killing me, Smalls.” Talk about applicable and hilarious! A Location for All Occasions! While this sweet family made our jobs easy with their fun-loving disposition, their soft color scheme and Mom’s springy shirt looked stunning against the Lookout Mountain backdrops
