4 Tips for a Professional Headshot

April 19, 2018 April 8, 2018 From the Hip Photo4555 views

While often overlooked, professional headshots are important for anyone pursuing a career – no matter what type of career that may be! Whether you’re a CEO or a college student looking for a summer internship, professional headshots are important. Having a professional headshot can make a big difference in reaching your career goals. In many scenarios, your professional headshot is the first interaction colleagues and employers will have with you, and as we all know first impressions are important! So, whether you need a photo to put on your business cards or if you just want to update your LinkedIn, we’ve got a few hints and tips to make sure you get exactly the type of photo you need!Professional Headshot | Portrait | Denver | From the Hip Photo

Traditional Vs. Environmental

The first thing to consider when preparing for your professional headshot session is what sort of environment you want to take your photos in. Traditional headshots are often taken in front of a simple, clean, white (or other classic color) backdrop. Despite the stigma of being stiff or boring, traditional headshots are actually one of the best ways to convey to your colleagues that you are organized, structured and professional.  Traditional headshots are most common in corporate office settings. They’re a classic and perfect for all of your business needs!

If you’re searching for something a bit more fun to show off your personality, environmental headshots may be the route for you! Choosing a unique scene to serve as the backdrop for your headshots allows you to show off a bit of your personality.  And you’ll still be able to maintain the level of professionalism that is expected with headshot photos.

What to Wear

Dress for success! When you look through your closet be sure to select something professional.  But also be sure to select something that makes you feel your best. Looking great and feeling great go hand in hand, and the confidence you exude will be apparent in your photos! You should also be aware of your color palette. It’s best to avoid skin tones and prints. Prints in particular can date your photo, especially if the print is small (like polka dots or small stripes). Our recommendation is to stick to something simple. Neutrals and mid tone colors are sure to flatter and look great!

Styling Tips

One of the easiest ways to enhance your photos is your make up! Simple and natural make up will only enhance your natural beauty. It’s also important to be sure you’re accessorizing doesn’t distract. Professional headshots show off who you are, so you want to make sure you’re representing yourself accurately!

Do Good

Finally, professional headshots are a perfect time to give back! Paying to have professional photos of yourself taken may feel a bit selfish to anyone who isn’t used to being in the spotlight. However, when you call us for your professional headshots you can be confident that you’re also doing good for someone else. Here at From the Hip Photo, we’ve partnered with Urban Peak and El Sistema Colorado. When you get your professional headshot, you can feel good knowing that you’ll be sponsoring one of these two deserving non-profits to get their own headshots. So not only will you look good in your headshots, but you can feel good knowing that you’re helping a local non-profit to look good in their own headshots!Professional Headshot | Portrait | Denver | From the Hip PhotoProfessional Headshot | Portrait | Denver | From the Hip Photo Professional Headshot | Portrait | Denver | From the Hip PhotoProfessional Headshot | Portrait | Denver | From the Hip Photo
