The harsh sounding name could not be further from the idyllic resort that Flo and Brandon chose as their winter wedding destination. Located in Tabernash, Colorado, just north of Winter Park, Devil's Thumb Ranch is the absolute vision of a winter wonderland. With sprawling fields of freshly packed snow and white brimmed trees dotting the mountainsides, the quiet stillness in the air provided the perfect atmosphere for a celebration of love. A family photo shoot can be a great way to capture a special moment in time with your loved ones. Of course, getting a bunch of people together for a photo shoot can be an intimidating process, especially if you're getting kids involved. We've certainly had our fair share of family photo shoots, so we'd like to offer you a few fun family photo ideas! Show Off Your Hobbies Here at From the Hip Photo, love trying to capture the perfect candid moment! A great way to add fun to your family photos is by concentrating on your hobbies, interests, and daily activities. This allows your family to express themselves more by letting the pictures do the talking. In other words, less looking (or trying your hardest to get the kids to look!) and more action. Highlight Your City Think about where you live. Is there an area or location that means something to you and your loved ones? This could be where the family home is, like Denver, or where you and the rest of the crew (pets included, of course!) love to go on vacation. Creating photographic memories in places that mean the most to you and your
This family is truly living a life of color! Tonia, Sean and their four children invited us to photograph their vibrant RiNo family photos, so of course, we said yes! Denver’s RiNo Arts District proved the perfect spot for this family because it matched their bright personalities and expressive dispositions. Everything is a Canvas RiNo or River North, Arts District in north Denver is a neighborhood full of wall designs, artistic experimentation, and colorful flares. In addition to all the public art, the streets of this place have a blend of urban charm and unique industrial revival at work. We love photographing families, couples, and individuals here because the neighborhood’s personality often works well with the people themselves. Each wall tells a story and walking along alleyways and down corridors are like a fun game of hide-and-seek for the perfect photo backdrop! To see what we mean when we talk about personality and paint, check out our other RiNo photography here! Oh Happy Day! Tonia and Sean shared their beautiful four children with us, and wow did we have a good time with this crew! Dressed in blacks, whites, and jeans, this family of six had all the giggles and
Do you love the fall, and want to photograph your family or loved ones during the peak of autumn color? Are you hoping to make the most of your fall season by capturing some unbeatable photos? If you answered “yes” to either of these questions, you are in luck! We have written a blog post on fall photography tips for you! Read this “how-to” guide to make your autumn photos turn out the best they can be! Lighting is Key One of photography’s most important considerations is lighting. While paying attention to lighting is crucial in every photo shoot, it is especially so during fall sessions. Autumn’s natural colors are reds, golds, and yellows which have the potential to either overpower or enhance natural lighting. While outdoors trying to capture that stunning gold light, make sure you either use the sun as an illuminant for the colors or a tool for silhouettes. You can get some great pictures with a bright orange backdrop if you angle the lighting just right. You can also capture some stunning silhouette pictures with a halo glow depending on your angle. Whatever you do: chase fall light with caution! Utilize Leaves! Everyone knows that the
With June comes vibrant colors and bursting blooms at every turn. With June comes summertime and brighter days. We thoroughly enjoyed shooting a Botanic family photo with the Spraco family at the Denver Botanic Gardens on a cheerful summer day! As you'd expect, this location is quite ideal for any photo shoot – especially one with an adorable family of three! A Year-Round Attraction! Located in the heart of Denver, the Denver Botanic Gardens is popular for its beautiful botanic displays, concerts, and event venue space. It is constantly changing its exhibitions and artwork, and it often has new events on the calendar open to the public! The Botanic Gardens even has winter light displays when vegetation is hibernating and Denverites are bundling up! Spraco Spunk There was no bundling up needed when we joined the Spraco family to take their pictures, though! These three had us gleefully dizzy with vibrant oranges, reds, and blues. Mom looked elegant in her flowing dress and heels. Dad and son looked dashingly handsome in their classy button shirts. A perfect meld between his parents, this boy’s plaid shirt helped make some adorable pictures with Mom and Dad! This little boy was sweet and
On a radiant summer day, we went with the Winters Family to South Platte Park and Carson Nature Center. We love a good family photo shoot – especially when it involves a doggo and some cute kiddos! This park is perfect especially on a summer day, and we loved exploring this new location with the Winters for a beautiful summer session! New Adventures As adventure junkies who are always hungry for new inspiration, we enjoyed getting to know this family and this new location close to home! South Platte Park and Carson Nature Center is an 880-acre open space along the South Platte River in Littleton, Colorado. This place has got it all: hiking trails, walking trails, and a reservoir for all kinds of water activities like kayaking, fishing, and paddle boarding! Over the (South Platte) river and through the woods we chased light with Mom, Dad, their three boys, and their adorable 8-year-old bulldog, Sasha Grace. The three Winters boys looked like dapper young men in pastel-colored shirts and patterned neckties. Mom and Dad had outfits to match, and the whole crew looked as happy as spring itself! Really, you can do wonderful, creative things with lighting. Check out what
Octobers are for bursting colors on trees, hot tea cuddled under a blanket, and your favorite flannel and jean combo. Octobers, though, can also be for family outings for that perfect picture. We went to Meyer Ranch Park for the Grimes family photos among the yellow aspen trees. We loved capturing this family not only because of their amiable personalities and kindness, but also because they brought along two of our favorite things: an adorable little boy and dog! Something New: Meyer Ranch Park! One look at this location and you’re sure to be hooked. Meyer Ranch Park gave us the perfect blanket of fallen leaves and a most stunning backdrop of fall colors. Located just outside of Morrison, Colorado, this park proved both beautiful and peacefully quiet. We loved getting to know this new location full of aspen trees and cozy trails. As with most photo-shoots in the fall, we recommend wearing autumn-colored outfits with darker, moodier tones. Check out our post here about how to plan your family picture outfits! But, as these pictures will show you, any outfit will work with cheek-wide smiles and a few hugs and kisses! It's All Fun and Games! The Grimes’ baby boy really
