Who doesn't love a snow-covered mountain overlooking the Rockies as their backdrop for engagement photos? Monique and Brian loved it so much they hiked up Lost Gulch in the middle of winter! It was freezing cold but they didn't have a care in the world. Visiting from Atlanta, Georgia, these two made it look like they hiked Lost Gulch every weekend. From ATL to the Mile High City I am sure that Atlanta has plenty to offer, but nothing beats the Rockies mid-winter! With an endless range of peaks and valleys, you can never go wrong. Lost Gulch just so happens to be one of our favorite locations. Lost Gulch Overlook is nestled in Flagstaff Mountain which overlooks the nearby city of Boulder. The Boulder area is filled with fun and eclectic people, places, and things to do! From the awesome shops on Pearl street to the beautiful trails surrounding the city-- you can't go wrong! The only thing that could have made this day better would have been some cozy hot chocolate on the mountaintop! Let's Take a Trip to Colombia (it's warmer there!) It wouldn't be an engagement session without an engagement story! After knowing each other since middle
A family photo shoot can be a great way to capture a special moment in time with your loved ones. Of course, getting a bunch of people together for a photo shoot can be an intimidating process, especially if you're getting kids involved. We've certainly had our fair share of family photo shoots, so we'd like to offer you a few fun family photo ideas! Show Off Your Hobbies Here at From the Hip Photo, love trying to capture the perfect candid moment! A great way to add fun to your family photos is by concentrating on your hobbies, interests, and daily activities. This allows your family to express themselves more by letting the pictures do the talking. In other words, less looking (or trying your hardest to get the kids to look!) and more action. Highlight Your City Think about where you live. Is there an area or location that means something to you and your loved ones? This could be where the family home is, like Denver, or where you and the rest of the crew (pets included, of course!) love to go on vacation. Creating photographic memories in places that mean the most to you and your
The weekend before Thanksgiving is a time for lounging on the sofa and planning out how much stuffing you can eat while still leaving room for pie. Usually, at least. This year, we spent the weekend taking some outdoor maternity photos with Mariah and her beautiful family at Chautauqua Park in Boulder. Even though it was mid-November, you can see that it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in these outdoor maternity photos! A Family Affair While some maternity shoots are solo events, Mariah got her whole family in on the fun. Her daughters came out equipped with earmuffs and mittens, a wise (and fashionable!) decision given the chilly weather. They seemed to have an absolute (snow)ball playing around and taking photos with Mom and Dad. Of course, in addition to full family photos, we were also sure to capture some more solemn moments between Mariah and her husband. Getting down on one knee in the snow is a true sign of dedication - we think we'll stay behind the camera, though. Snowy Chautauqua Part of why we were so excited about these outdoor maternity photos was the location. Chautauqua Park is one of our favorite spots in
The weather here in Colorado tends to shift from hot to cold and back again over the course of a single day. If often feels like Colorado's weather doesn't have seasons so much as it does mood swings. At their Sprague Lake engagement shoot earlier this fall, Ashleigh and Tim showed us their secret technique for conquering the confusing Colorado climate: blankets! Love & Order We're willing to bet that most people don't enroll in mock trial class expecting to find love. But that's exactly how Ashleigh and Tim met! As the two teammates grew closer, Ashleigh proposed a trip for the two of them to Iceland. As it turns out, Tim had a proposal of his own in mind. He surprised Ashleigh by popping the question on the last day of their trip. We happen to think an Icelandic proposal sounds pretty romantic, but we'll let the jury decide this one. Sprague Lake So why a Sprague Lake engagement shoot? Well, it's no Iceland, but we happen to think it's pretty cool. Located in Rocky Mountain National Park, Sprague Lake is named after Abner Sprague. Sprague (the guy, not the lake) moved to the area in the late 19th
Although wintertime is still a little ways away, it's already starting to get nice and snowy here in Colorado. In fact, the Rocky Mountain National Park has a bunch of snow already! Luke and Brian sure knew how to keep each other warm for this shoot. In fact, we're not sure how they didn't freeze! Check out these lovely Rocky Mountain National Park engagement photos! Rocky Mountain National Park The Rocky Mountain National Park is one of our favorite places to shoot photos because it's just so damn beautiful! No matter the season, this park never fails to amaze us. Although this was taken only the second week of October, the whole park has turned into a winter wonderland. Encompassing about 415 square miles, the Rocky Mountain National Park spans the Continental Divide and its surrounding ecosystems and mountains. From camping, to fishing, to scenic drives, there really is no shortage of activities! It is also home to over 350 miles of walking and hiking trails. You can even get a tour from a park ranger who can show you there very best spots the park has to offer. Of course, exploring the unknown is also highly recommended! The Key to
We might be a little biased, but we believe it's hard to beat Colorado in the summertime. We get low humidity, clear skies, and some of the most incredible views around. These qualities all make Colorado a dream wedding destination. And if you're going to get married in Colorado, why not go all out? That's exactly what Mikal and Andrew did in this mountaintop wedding shoot in Keystone! An Uplifting Experience Most people associate chairlifts with ski trips, not weddings. But Mikal and Andrew aren't like most people, and this isn't like most weddings! Besides, hiking in heels on your special day can be a real drag. The fun-loving couple decided to reach their mountaintop wedding shoot in style. If you ask us, it was worth it. Look at that view! Ages of Affection Having loved ones around is always nice, particularly on a day as important as your wedding. Mikal and Andrew were lucky enough to have generations of family both young and old in attendance to celebrate their devotion to each other. Of course, they also had plenty of friends by their sides as well! We doubt this young flower girl will forget this one-of-a-kind experience anytime soon! An
The end of high school can be a stressful time. Besides their normal schoolwork, students are applying to colleges and preparing to say goodbye to old friends. It is easy to feel overwhelmed by the sudden onset of adult responsibilities. But Felicia's outdoor senior photos showed us that senior year can be a time of celebration (and style!) Outdoors in Overalls Felicia came to her photo shoot with a variety of outfits that were both classy and comfortable. In a sturdy pair of light-wash overalls, Felicia ventured out into a creek. The results prove that gorgeous natural photos are what Colorado does best. She later switched into a pair of black jeans and a red shirt. This combination contrasted the shoot's background while showing off Felicia's sense of style. A cute, versatile olive green hat enhanced with both of these outfits. Summer Fashion and Sunflowers Felicia looked at home surrounded by nature. Colorado's beautiful mountains served as the perfect backdrop. She demonstrated that outdoor senior photos can still be elegant with her final outfit. In an ornate black romper, she basked in the perfect summer weather and lighting. Are Outdoor Senior Photos Right For You? Senior year is a momentous
While traditional weddings are all good and well, elopements offer an entirely underrated opportunity to focus on the most important aspects of a new marriage. Personal and intentional, elopement weddings are a blast to be a part of! We loved capturing Deborah and Kevin’s intimate elopement photos in Colorado because they made clear what was most important: marrying one another. What’s the Buzz? Most couples want to escape the stress of planning a big wedding and considering family and friends’ opinions and feelings. Elopements allow couples to sidestep all the pressure that comes with planning and just focus on marrying one another. We are big fans of this untraditional wedding route, and we even wrote a blog post about it! Check out, “The Importance of Weddings Photos | Especially for an Elopement” post! Considering if an elopement wedding is right for you? Check out “The Pros and Cons of Eloping” by Sandy Malone! True Love Inside & Out Deborah and Kevin went from a luxury indoor setting at Denver’s Oxford Hotel to an outdoor dream venue at Arrowhead Golf Course. These venues proved the perfect spots for Deborah and Kevin’s elopement photos. The Oxford’s white walls and elegant décor made
Summers in Colorado can get balmy at times... But other times, the weather can be perfect for outdoor excursions with family and friends! We headed up to Boulder to capture this beautiful South Mesa Trail family photoshoot. These guys could not have been more joyous! South Mesa Trail The South Mesa Trailhead can be found south of downtown Boulder, off of Highway 170. The trail is well-known for being a great place to see wildlife while not being too difficult to traverse. Much of the trail is out in the open, leading to some fantastic views of the nearby mountains. Plus it's not too far at all from downtown Boulder. Pearl Street for those who aren't familiar, is another great location to shoot or just hang out around! Check out some other photoshoots that we've done in Boulder here! Best Friends Fur-ever There's more than just three to this family! A couple of their canine pals joined us for this session. Pets make great additions to photo sessions because of their easy going vibes, pets make for great smiles all around! This clear and sunny July day proved to be an excellent source of natural light, which always provides a
Fall is just around the corner, so to kick off the season of oranges and yellows and flannel outfits, we want to share Nicole and Carm's family photos at Red Rocks! What a joy it was to photograph this family of four in their most stylish outfits and fun personalities! A beloved and increasingly famous venue, Red Rocks is known for its concerts and impressive surround sound effects. However, it’s also known for its stunning rock faces and vistas that showcase both the Colorado landscape and the city of Denver. This place is close to our hearts because we’ve been here many times to snap occasions of every kind. No matter the circumstance or season, Red Rocks surely will not disappoint! Check out our many other family photo sessions here! A Fabulous Four With brunette hair and a burst of red, with golden fall leaves and dapper flannels that match, this family was a total joy to photograph! Nicole and Carm proudly held their two boys Griffin and Sawyer, who clearly already have a strong budding relationship. The boys giggled and danced, jumped and skipped together with wide eyes and big smiles. As you can imagine, we couldn’t get enough of
