After meeting in NYC, Nina & Danny earned their fine art degrees and moved to Denver. In 2009, they combined their passion for photography, and From the Hip Photo was born. Its name is a nod to the style of our images: candid, spontaneous, fresh, playful, and vibrant.

Since then, the From the Hip Photo family has grown into the most accomplished crew of visual professionals in Colorado. Our passionate, expert team of photographers brings energy and artistry to every session we photograph. Lauren, who rose through our internship program to become our Studio Manager, brings a creative mind to our daily operations.

That’s no typo: social responsibility is at the core of what we do and 20% of our annual sales go back to supporting groups doing important work within Colorado.

Our pro-bono work includes multi-year partnerships with non-profits including Brent’s Place and The Wayfaring Band. We’ve joined up with survivors of the Aurora movie theater tragedy, assisted at countless special events and fundraisers, and supported a fertile creative landscape as partners to Denver Film, the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, the Colorado Photographic Arts Center, Denver Zine Library, The Denver Center for Performing Arts, and The Denver Art Museum.

Other groups with whom we have partnered include Anchor Center for Blind Children, Youth on Record, the ACLU, Operation Hope, both Denver and Aurora Public Schools, The Dumb Friends League, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and festivals including The High Plains Comedy Festival and Denver Film Festival.

Although many of our sessions are captured out and about on-location, you’ll find our studio headquarters in the Central Park/Northfield neighborhood, where we’ve been based since January of 2009. It’s also where all of our post-production magic happens.

Being here makes it easy to come by and chat in person and gives us a great hub for headshots and portraits, product photography, and other sessions that benefit from a more controlled studio environment.
