Located east of downtown Denver, the neighborhood is at the former site of the decommissioned Stapleton International Airport that was closed in 1995 when Denver International Airport was being commercialized. Biking and hiking paths connect the area to the 17,000-acre Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, where the city gives way to the prairie.
