Mortified, a nationwide phenomenon devoted to chronicling teen angst by having adults share their most embarrassing childhood artifacts (journals, letters, poems, lyrics, plays, home movies, art) with others. To help the less romantically inclined crowd enjoy Valentine’s Day, Get Mortified puts together Mortified: Doomed Valentines edition each year. The event hosts love stories happy, sad, and all hilariously embarrassing. The event we covered at Oriental Theater on Feb 13th, featured a story by former FTH photographer Josie and her (spoilers) fiancĂ© Jackie.
Mortified provides all kinds of services. They produce podcasts, host storytelling workshops and publish books. But the comedy and atmosphere of events like this one make them incredible to attend. This event was a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
It is always exciting to cover a live event. This one in particular wasn’t just hilarious, but therapeutic. Teenage angst is something we can all relate to. So are misadventures in affection. Mortified: Doomed Valentines Edition gives us all a chance to celebrate failure. And it helps us reckon with our own regrets and embarrassment in a fun way!
The whole event was a blast! Our team at From the Hip Photo had a blast capturing the joy of this audience! But the stories told on stage were so personal and relatable, that we were laughing too hard to get a proper shot. Here’s to next year’s celebration!
