4 Professional Business Photo Tips to Look Your Best | Headshot Tips

Getting professional business photos taken can often seem a bit intimidating – camera shyness is real, y’all!Β Our little photography family may be a bit biased, but we’re here to tell you that having a business headshot taken by a professional it is absolutely worth it. We’ve compiled four professional business photo tips to look (and feel!) your best next time you get a new headshot!

1. Do Your Homework

From our list of professional business photo tips, the number one to remember is to do you homework and actually research photographers. Don’t just pick the first one from your Google search. Whether you’re updating your professional headshotsΒ or having them taken for the first time, it’s important to find a photographer who is the perfect fit. Read reviews, check out websites, investigate prices, and peruse social media platforms. Sometimes knowing the person behind the lens can ensure things go swimmingly, so maybe even schedule a meeting to talk to these photographers in person. See what kind of style each photographer shoots in and consider how it correlates with what you’re envisioning. Before you even get in front of the camera, find someone you really click with.

2. Communicate, Communicate, Communicate

If you know what you want, let your photographer know! Look for inspiration, send Pinterest boards, bounce ideas off each other. If you have a unique and creative idea you’ve been dying to try, spill the beans! Don’t ever be afraid to speak your mind. After all, these are your photos! Similarly, be open to communication from the photographer. They have a different perspective than you and can help you pose with a complimentary angle or move a bit over for softer light on your face. Be confident they’re someone whose ideas you wholeheartedly trust, otherwise, there might be a lot of awkward back and forth during the session. Spectacular photos require teamwork and collaboration!

3. Dress for Success

Looking your very best and feeling your very best often go hand in hand. Before the camera even comes out, make sure you’re feeling picture perfect. If your go-to dress is what makes you feel most confident, bring it along! If you love the way blue brings out your eyes, throw on a turquoise shirt! Consider lots of options in different colors, patterns, and styles. Unsure what to wear? Bring a couple outfit choices with you and ask your photographer! They can let you know what looks best with your chosen backdrop. And these professional business photo tips doesn’t just apply to clothes! Be sure you feel confident about your hair, makeup, jewelry, and general appearance. Feel free to check out our Pinterest boards for some great What to Wear suggestionsΒ and posing inspiration.

4. Relax!

When it comes to your professional photos, the single most important thing also happens to be the most difficult! Relaxing seems simple, but it’s easy to tense up with a camera pointed your way. Try to act natural, take some deep breaths, maybe even laugh at yourself if that would help put you at ease. Keep in mind that this is what professional photographers do for a living. They want nothing more than to make you and your photos look amazing! Try your best to let us handle the real work, while you focus your energy on simply enjoying the photoshoot! And you know, when in doubt, you can always hit ’em with the “Blue Steel”!
