Photography is just one of our many artistic passions. We love capturing the spirit of all kinds of events. From weddings to newborns, we love to snap them all! Our love for the arts is one of the many reasons we love MCA Denver. It’s one of the many reasons we love partnering with the museum for a variety of art-centered events. We have fun every time we get to spend an afternoon, or an evening, in the museum looking at the amazing art it features! That’s why we were super stoked to spend an evening at MCA Denver with a special guest: Portugal. the Man!
The Man
In the last year, Portugal. the Man has taken over the radio, and we aren’t complaining! Their hit song, “Feel It Still,” placed the band at the top of the pop and alternative charts, becoming an instant hit. And if we’re being honest, we’re guilty of playing The Man’s music on repeat too.
Portugal. the Man has been making music since the early 2000’s and was originally started as a side project by John Gourley. The band spent years developing their loyal fan base. In addition to being a big name in the alternative music scene, Portugal. the Man has been a staple of our Spotify playlists for quite some time. They’ve consistently put out a new record each year since 2006, but it wasn’t until the release of “Feel It Still” that the band gained the recognition that they have now. Their loyal fans (From the Hip photo fam included) couldn’t be more excited to see one of our favorites having such success!
An MCA Event
We’ve been hosting impromptu dance parties to Portugal. the Man’s music for months now. If you’ve stopped by our studio you may have noticed us jamming to some of their tracks while we edit your photos! That’s why we were thrilled to attend this super secret Portugal. the Man show in February! This intimate concert took place to celebrate Cleon Peterson’s artwork. Cleon Peterson is an LA-based artist whose work was on display at the MCA at the time. Peterson also happens to be pretty good friends with Portugal. the Man, and that’s how the whole thing got started!
The show took place right in the middle of the gallery. Honestly you guys, we still can’t stop talking about how much fun we had with these two amazing artists! The artwork was amazing, and so were the tunes! We never wanted the night to end! But of course, all good things must come to an end. So, the next best thing to a never-ending-concert is sharing all the good times with you all!
