How to Show Off Your Personality in Senior Portraits

June 24, 2016 January 21, 2021 From the Hip Photo4 comments7049 views

Senior portraits are an exciting marker of the end to a major part of your life and the transition to something new. So of course you want them to be just right and capture who you are! It can be a little intimidating working with a professional photographer to capture your personality in senior portraits, but it doesn’t have to be! Here are some easy how-tos to show off how unique you are in your senior pictures and let your personality shine through.

Wear What You Like

While it’s always nice to have one formal outfit to make mom and dad happy, wearing clothes that make you feel comfortable can make all the difference! You won’t feel confident or be able to let the truth shine through if you’re worried about the way your outfit looks or feels. Wearing clothes that you wear regularly will make you feel like you and will also help you feel more relaxed during the photo session so the photographer can capture your real personality in senior portraits.

Accessorize

Add accessories that you love! Whether it’s a scarf, jacket, or quirky hat, incorporate it into your senior photos. Accessories can help you share your personality in senior portraits because they tell more about what you like. Maybe you love wearing bright red sneakers – bring them to your photo session! Maybe you’re known for wearing the same leather jacket every day – wear it to your photo session! Have fun with your favorite accessories for your senior pictures.

Share Your Passions

Did you play in a band during school? Or maybe you were a competitive athlete! Bring something that represents it with you! A person in a band could bring their instrument, someone who played basketball could bring a ball with them, an artist could bring some colorful paintbrushes along. Let your hobbies shine through and show off your personality in senior portraits as they can be such a large part of your life.

Celebrate Your Accomplishments

You spent your time in school working hard and many students have a letter jacket covered in glistening pins that commemorate all of their efforts. Bring it with you! After all, you are graduating and there’s no better time to celebrate all of the things accomplished in your academic career. Letter jackets also add even more personality to your photo session because it shows what you were involved in – academics, clubs, and sports!

Find Fun Backgrounds

More than likely, your photographer has a variety of locations up their sleeve. We definitely do, so just ask! If you have the chance to pick, make sure you pick a location that matches your personality. Some people would rather have their pictures in the city, while other people would rather be out in fields. Working with your photographer to pick backgrounds that match your personality will help you showcase just how awesome you really are!

Have Fun!

Don’t forget to relax and have a good time during your photoshoot! The only way your real personality will shine through is if you are having fun! Whether this means taking the time to laugh or pose with a silly accessory, do it! Your photographer is always taking photos, if you are ready or not, so they can capture some candid shots of you with a less posed look. Your photographer is there to make things as easy as possible, taking the pressure off you. All you need to do is be yourself!

We hope you have an awesome experience during your photo session and that these ideas will help you show off your personality in your senior portraits!
