There is something special about an engagement session that takes you through the places that matter most. Katie and Matt chose to spend their session exploring the neighborhoods, bars, and streets where their love story unfolded, and the results speak for themselves.
We started at what was then Middleman on Colfax (now The Lowbeam), a spot close to their hearts with stunning painted murals and an unforgettable atmosphere. From there, we walked the surrounding streets, stopping by the Bluebird Theater and other meaningful landmarks before ending at Asterisk with its rooftop views and bold blue wall.
At From the Hip Photo, we specialize in capturing the authentic energy and emotion of couples in the places they love. Whether you want an urban Denver vibe or a mountain escape, our team will guide you to the perfect locations and deliver images that feel completely you.

Urban murals, moody interiors, and candid moments from the first half of this downtown Denver engagement session
We kicked off Katie and Matt’s session at what was then Middleman on Colfax (the space is now home to The Lowbeam), a place that held special meaning in their relationship. The painted murals, warm lighting, and overall vibe of the space made it a gorgeous setting for the opening chapter of their engagement photos.
We always recommend choosing a location that has real significance to you as a couple. When you are in a space where you feel comfortable and at home, that energy translates directly into your images. Katie and Matt were completely relaxed from the first frame, and their chemistry in front of the camera was undeniable.
If you have a favorite Denver bar, coffee shop, or neighborhood spot, we would love to build your engagement session around it. The best photos come from real places with real stories behind them.
From there, we continued on foot through the neighborhood, stopping for candid shots near the Bluebird Theater, another landmark with personal significance to Katie and Matt. Working in places that hold meaning creates a natural ease that posed sessions in unfamiliar settings simply cannot replicate.
We made our way to Katie’s nearby carriage house, a stunning space filled with plants and personality, along with their fur buddy. Since she was preparing to sell it and move in with Matt before the wedding, capturing these moments in her home made the session even more meaningful.
Our Denver photography team loves exploring neighborhoods on foot during engagement sessions. The spontaneous moments between locations often produce some of the most memorable images of the entire session.
Our final stop was Asterisk, a venue with a fantastic rooftop and bold, colorful walls that provided the perfect urban backdrop to close out the session. Katie and Matt brought their playful energy to every corner, including a fun moment with oversized lego blocks we discovered on the rooftop.
Asterisk’s mix of industrial architecture, vibrant color, and open-air rooftop gave us a completely different aesthetic from the moody interiors along Colfax. That variety is exactly why we love multi-location sessions in downtown Denver: each stop tells a different part of your story.
Katie and Matt were amazing to work with. Their fun personalities and genuine love for each other made every frame a joy to capture. Reach out to us to plan your own multi-location downtown Denver engagement session.
