Aerial view of the red rock formations and fairway at Arrowhead Golf Club, Littleton
Littleton, Colorado

The course

A national park
with a clubhouse

Arrowhead sits in Littleton, hard against the same red sandstone fins that make neighbouring Roxborough State Park famous — formations laid down over hundreds of millions of years.

The par-70 course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Jr., and it winds through real foothills terrain: sharp elevation changes, water, and ancient rock on nearly every hole. Deer, elk and foxes wander the grounds, and they turn up in pictures more often than you would expect.

For a wedding, the practical appeal is that a landscape this dramatic is forty minutes from downtown Denver — and less than that from most of the south metro. You get geology that looks like a national park without asking your guests to drive into the mountains — and unlike a true mountain venue, there is a clubhouse, a covered pavilion and a banquet room on site when the weather turns.

Arrowhead runs a ceremony and a reception in one place, which keeps the day simple and means nobody is getting in a car between the vows and the first drink.

What to know

Three things that shape
the day here

01

The rock is at its best in the last hour

Low light warms the sandstone and throws long shadows across the fairway. The same rock at midday goes flat and pale. If your ceremony is early, we shoot portraits later and use the pavilion and tree line in between.

02

Midday is genuinely open sun

The course is exposed with very little shade. A midday ceremony means squinting guests and hard shadows — worth designing around rather than discovering.

03

The tent is a real rain plan — May to October

An open-air tent with clear walls that roll up or down, seating up to 200 with a dance floor. We have shot good work under it during afternoon storms and it is not a compromise. It is also seasonal: the club puts it up in May and takes it down after October, so a November-to-April wedding lives in the Roxborough Room.

The spaces

Four rooms we
toured and lit

The ceremony site. The outdoor lawn, with the red rock formations and the course falling away behind it. The shot most couples picture when they book.

The 14th hole. The most photographed spot on the property. Red sandstone fins, long views, and light that gets very good in the last hour before sunset.

The Roxborough Banquet Room. The indoor reception space, with windows onto the course. Warm light in the afternoon and room to work as the party moves inside.

The outdoor pavilion. Covered space overlooking the course — useful for cocktail hour, and a genuine plan B when Colorado weather does what it does.

You can walk all four yourself before you visit: we shot the 360-degree virtual tours of each one.

Season by season

When to book, and why

SPRING · APR–MAYGreen fairway against red rock is the strongest colour contrast of the year, and the course is quiet.
SUMMER · JUN–AUGPeak season and peak exposure. Late-afternoon ceremonies solve the midday problem entirely.
FALL · SEP–OCTOur favourite. Low warm light earlier in the day, sandstone goes deep orange, and the scrub oak turns.
WINTER · NOV–MARUnderrated. Snow on red rock is striking, light is soft all day, and the banquet room does the heavy lifting.
ONE VENUE, WHOLE DAYCeremony and reception on the same property, so the timeline stays simple and guests are not travelling.
BOOK THE LIGHTSunset drives the best portraits here more than at most venues. We will tell you honestly what time to aim for.

Light, timing and the
practical details

Shooting here: light and timing

The red rock is the whole point, and it is at its best in the last hour before sunset, when the low light warms the sandstone and the shadows lengthen across the fairway. Midday is the hard part — the course is open and exposed, with very little shade — so if your ceremony lands early we plan portraits for later and use the pavilion and the tree line in between.

Because the ceremony lawn faces the formations, a late-afternoon ceremony puts the rock behind you and the sun off to the side, which is close to ideal. We will walk the timeline with you and your planner so the portrait window lands where the light is.

Weather plan: the outdoor pavilion is a genuine covered option, not a compromise — we have shot good work under it during afternoon storms. Colorado being Colorado, we always arrive with a plan for both.

Planning notes

  • One venue, whole day. Ceremony and reception on the same property, so the timeline stays simple and guests are not travelling.
  • Book the light, not the hour. Sunset drives the best portraits here more than at most venues. We will tell you honestly what time to aim for.
  • Comfortable shoes for the portrait loop. The best rock formations are a short walk from the clubhouse and the ground is uneven.
  • Venue booking is separate. Arrowhead is now an Arcis Golf club, and dates, catering and pricing go through the club’s events team at arcisgolf.com. Two things worth knowing early: the clubhouse tops out around 200 guests, and food and drink are in-house only — no outside caterers, no outside bar. We handle the photography side.

If you are still choosing a photographer, our Denver wedding photographer page covers packages and what a full day looks like, and our guide to what wedding photography costs in Denver lays out the numbers.

Still deciding on the venue itself rather than the photographer? Our complete Arrowhead Golf Course venue guide on the blog covers the ceremony and reception options and how the day tends to flow — the planning side, rather than the photography side.

Questions we get

Planning a wedding here

What is the best time of day for photos at Arrowhead?

The last hour before sunset, without much competition. Low light warms the sandstone and throws long shadows across the fairway; the same rock at midday goes flat and pale. If your ceremony is early we shoot portraits later and use the pavilion and tree line in between.

What are the best photo spots at Arrowhead Golf Club?

The 14th hole is the most photographed spot on the property — red sandstone fins and long views. Beyond that: the ceremony lawn with the formations behind it, the tree line for shade, and the pavilion overlooking the course. All are a short walk from the clubhouse.

Is there a rain plan at Arrowhead?

Yes, from May to October. The open-air tent with clear roll-up walls seats up to 200 and is a genuine option rather than a compromise — though it comes down after October, so a winter wedding lives in the Roxborough Room — we have shot strong work under it during afternoon storms — and the Roxborough Banquet Room has windows onto the course. You are never left without a backdrop.

Can you have the ceremony and reception in the same place?

Yes. Arrowhead runs both on one property, so nobody is getting in a car between the vows and the first drink. That single fact takes more pressure off a wedding timeline than almost anything else.

How far is Arrowhead from Denver?

About forty minutes south of downtown, in Littleton — the club’s own number, and it matches what the drive actually feels like on a Saturday. Closer if you are coming from the south metro. It is still the closest thing to a mountain-scale landscape you can reach from Denver without going into the mountains.

Do you know the venue well?

We do — we photographed the 360-degree virtual tours of the ceremony site, the 14th hole, the Roxborough Banquet Room and the pavilion, all linked above. If you do not already have specific spots in mind, leave the route to us on the day.

Other Colorado venues we know well

We have photographed enough at each of these to write a guide to it. If you are still comparing, these are worth a look:

  • Denver Botanic Gardens — 24 acres of cultivated gardens in the middle of the city.
  • Chatfield Farms — 700 working acres against the foothills, and a separate Botanic Gardens property.
  • Denver Museum of Nature & Science — the Sky Terrace skyline view, and portraits under the dinosaurs.
  • Grant-Humphreys Mansion — a 1902 Beaux-Arts colonnade minutes from downtown.
  • Devil’s Thumb Ranch — 6,500 acres in the Fraser Valley, and weekend-long celebrations.
  • Spruce Mountain Ranch — 450 acres in Larkspur — the venue we have photographed most.
  • Della Terra — above Estes Park at the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park.
  • Moss Denver — industrial, indoors, and the best winter venue in the city.
  • Boettcher Mansion — a 1917 Arts & Crafts lodge on top of Lookout Mountain.
  • Blackstone Rivers Ranch — riverfront aspens 35 minutes west of Denver.
  • Mile High Station — historic industrial downtown, and up to 1,200 guests.
  • Denver Union Station — the Great Hall — the best indoor portrait location in the city.
  • Hudson Gardens — thirty acres of free public garden, and Colorado’s best winter lights.

Still assembling the rest of your team? We keep a list of the Denver wedding vendors we love — the caterers, florists, planners and bar teams we have worked beside on real wedding days.
