Denver wedding planning guide
To choose a Denver wedding photographer, compare your shortlist on six things: published pricing, what each package actually includes, the team’s wedding experience, their editing style across a full gallery, how well they know your venue, and the rights you get to your photos. Ask every studio the same questions and compare full galleries, not highlight reels. Below is the checklist our team at From the Hip Photo would use. We’ve filled in our own answers too, so you can compare us on the same terms.

Use this table as your shortlist scorecard. Fill in the last column for each studio you are considering; ours is filled in already.
| Criterion | What to ask | What good looks like | From the Hip Photo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pricing transparency | Can I see your full wedding pricing before a call? | Prices published on the website, with taxes and deposit terms spelled out | Three published collections, $4,250 to $7,750, taxes included |
| Package inclusions | What do I take home, and what costs extra? | Hours, photographer count, retouching, turnaround, travel and rights all listed in writing | Retouching on all photos, about four-week turnaround, high-resolution images with full printing and personal usage rights, no per-image charges |
| Experience | How many years have you shot weddings, and who is on your team? | Years of wedding work, a full-time team and consistent reviews across platforms | Five full-time photographers, weddings since January 2009, 4.9★ across 371 reviews |

Ask: “Can I see your complete wedding pricing, including tax, deposit and travel, before we get on a call?”
Why it matters. Published pricing lets you rule studios in or out on your own schedule, and it tells you the price won’t move once the studio learns your venue or guest count. Denver quotes vary a lot. Our Denver wedding photographer cost guide puts a full day with one experienced photographer at roughly $4,500 to $8,500 in 2026, and $6,500 to $9,500+ with two photographers and an album, so you need a number in writing to compare anything.
Our three wedding collections ($4,250 to $7,750, taxes included) are published on our wedding page. We hold your date with a signed agreement and a 50% retainer. If you’d rather skip the call, our online booking shows your date and price in about three minutes, and you can hold a date there.
Criterion 2
Ask: “Walk me through everything I receive after the wedding, and list anything that costs extra.”
Why it matters. Two packages at the same price can deliver very different things. One may include retouching on the full gallery, travel and print rights, while another bills each of those separately. Line up the deliverables, then the price.

Every collection includes unlimited pre-wedding coordination, photography by our full-time pros, portfolio-quality retouching on all photos, an approximately four-week turnaround, travel within a one-hour radius of our Denver studio, all taxes, and high-resolution images with full printing and personal usage rights. There are no per-image charges, and you can add an album from our album options.
Criterion 3
Ask: “How long have you photographed weddings, and who is on your team?”
Why it matters. Experience shows up in the small calls, like where to stand for the recessional or how to keep family photos moving so you get back to your guests.

Our five full-time photographers have photographed weddings across Denver and Colorado since January 2009, bringing nearly two decades of experience to your day. Every photographer is part of our dedicated, expert full-time team, not weekend freelancers or subcontractors, and we’ve covered everything from Sapphire Point elopements to 300-guest celebrations at The Manor House, plus hundreds of LGBTQIA+ ceremonies. In 17+ years, we’ve never missed a wedding.
Criterion 4
Ask: “Can we see two or three complete wedding galleries, start to finish, from venues like ours?”
Why it matters. A portfolio shows a photographer’s best twenty frames. A full gallery shows you the dim reception hall, the family formals and the moments between, which make up most of what you’ll receive. Pick a style you like in ordinary light as well as at golden hour.

Our style is documentary and candid with a fine-art edge, and our in-house team retouches every photo, so we never dump unedited files on you. See full days in our real-wedding stories, like Rockin’ Red Rocks, Downtown Denver Elegance and Crested Butte Bohemian Mountainside, or ask us for a full gallery anytime.
Criterion 5
Ask: “Have you photographed at our venue? Where do you like to do portraits there, and what’s the plan if it rains?”
Why it matters. Colorado venues range from museum lawns in City Park to mountain ranches, and the weather can turn fast. A photographer who knows your venue already knows where the light is good at 4 p.m. and where everyone goes if it rains, so less of the timeline goes to scouting on the day.

We’ve photographed weddings at hundreds of Colorado venues, from Estes Park to Telluride. Denver Botanic Gardens is our official photography partner venue, and we’ve written guides for Denver Botanic Gardens, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, Arrowhead Golf Club, Chatfield Farms and Hudson Gardens. We build a custom timeline around your venue at your consultation, and quote any travel beyond our included radius up front.
Criterion 6
Ask: “Do we get high-resolution files, and can we print them anywhere and give copies to family without paying extra?”
Why it matters. The usage terms in your contract decide what you can do with your photos after the wedding. You want full-resolution files and printing covered, with no lab restrictions and no extra fees later.
Red flags: prints allowed only through the photographer’s lab, a separate “print release” fee, usage terms missing from the contract, or high-resolution files sold separately.
Every client receives high-resolution images with full printing and personal usage rights, with no extra fees. Print anywhere you like, or use the print ordering built into your gallery, which your family and guests can use too.

Beyond the six questions above, these three are easy to forget:
