Because the structure is open rather than roofed, light comes through it rather than over it — which means the couple are lit from above and the sides at once, and the foothills stay visible behind them.

Late-afternoon ceremonies here are the ones we get asked about most, and for good reason: the sun is low enough to come through the timber without blowing out the sky behind.
