The Larkspur venue closed after its 2025 season, following fifteen seasons of weddings. Here is what happened, where couples are going instead, and the work we made there.
Fifteen seasons,
and then an ending
The Venue at Crooked Willow Farms, on South Perry Park Road in Larkspur, stopped taking weddings after the 2025 season.
The venue said goodbye publicly at the end of December 2025, thanking couples for fifteen seasons of celebrating there. We have not seen a statement giving a reason, and we are not going to speculate about one.
The property itself has not gone anywhere. The Zoology Foundation, a non-profit animal sanctuary, now operates at the same address, and the estate has separately been listed for sale. If you are reading this because you found the venue on a wedding directory and the listing looked live — that is the problem. Most of them have not been updated.
One more thing worth saying plainly, because it catches people out: there is a similarly named venue in Minnesota that is open and booking. Search engines conflate the two constantly. If you have found availability, check which state you are looking at before you get your hopes up.

Between 2016 and 2018, plus a good deal of work with vendors on the property. If you are trying to remember a detail of the place, we probably have a frame of it.

The Zoology Foundation is a working animal rescue at the same address, not an event venue. They cannot help with wedding enquiries and it is not fair to send them.
Four Colorado venues
with the same feeling
Spruce Mountain Ranch. The closest match, and it is in the same town — about five miles up the road. Open meadows, a barn, the Front Range behind it, and a working ranch underneath. If you loved Crooked Willow for the setting rather than the buildings, start here.
Chatfield Farms. A 700-acre working farm run by Denver Botanic Gardens, with a restored 1918 dairy barn, an 1874 schoolhouse and a silo. The nearest thing to Crooked Willow’s historic-homestead character.
Blackstone Rivers Ranch. Smaller, and in the mountains rather than the plains — aspens, two creeks and one wedding a day. Good if the intimacy was the appeal.
Devil’s Thumb Ranch. The one to look at if you wanted the whole weekend rather than the day. Considerably bigger and considerably more expensive, but the same idea taken further.

The red barn did most of the work
Barn red against a blue Colorado sky is a colour combination you cannot really improve on, and the white fence lines gave you somewhere to put people at every hour of the day. It photographed well in flat light, which is rarer than it sounds.
The string lights were the reason to stay late
The best frames we made at Crooked Willow were all after dark, under the lights strung across the yard. If you are choosing a new venue and that is the picture in your head, ask specifically about permanent exterior lighting — it is the thing that makes a night portrait possible without dragging in a lighting kit.
Ninety acres meant driving between locations
Worth remembering as you look at replacements: on a big property, the real constraint is not the number of good spots, it is how long it takes to walk between them. We planned routes here rather than lists.
About the closure
Is Crooked Willow Farms still open?
No. The Venue at Crooked Willow Farms in Larkspur, Colorado closed after its 2025 season, following fifteen seasons of weddings. Note that a separately owned venue of a similar name operates in Minnesota and is still booking — if you have found availability somewhere, check which state you are looking at.
Can you still get married at Crooked Willow Farms?
Not in Larkspur. The Colorado property is no longer taking wedding bookings. Several wedding directories still list it as available, which is why couples keep finding it — those listings are out of date.
What is at the property now?
The Zoology Foundation, a non-profit animal sanctuary, operates at the same address on South Perry Park Road. The estate has also been listed for sale. Please do not contact the sanctuary about weddings; it is not an event venue.
Is there a Colorado venue like Crooked Willow?
