What product

Most photographers will not tell you until you fill in a form. Here are our actual numbers, what drives them, and how to read anyone else’s quote.

Our rates

Two ways to buy it

What you getPriceBest for
Per setup$250One product, one style, one to five finished images. The right choice when you have a handful of products and know the look you want.
Hourly session$625Unlimited products, unlimited images, any style or backdrop. Almost always cheaper than stacking setups once you pass three or four products.

Both include professional retouching, high-resolution delivery and full commercial usage rights. There is no separate licence fee, no per-channel charge, and no fee to use the images in advertising. Turnaround is five to seven days.

What actually drives the number

Three things that move
a product quote

01

Setups, not shutter clicks

Nearly all the cost is building the shot: lighting, surface, styling, cleaning the product so it survives a hundred-percent crop. Once that exists, more frames of the same product in the same look cost almost nothing. This is why per-setup pricing usually costs you less than per-image pricing for identical work — and why anyone quoting per image should be asked what counts as one.

02

How many looks, not how many products

Twelve products on the same white sweep is one lighting build. Three products across three moods is three. Clients routinely expect the opposite, and it is the single biggest reason quotes come in above expectations.

03

What happens to the images afterwards

A shot for your own website is priced differently from one running as paid media for two years. We include full commercial usage, which removes that conversation entirely — but if you are comparing quotes, find the usage clause before you compare the totals.

Reading a quote

Why the numbers you
find online disagree

Ship-to-studio services. National operators quote low per image for white-background e-commerce at volume, often with a 24-hour turnaround. If you need two hundred clean pack shots and nothing else, that is a genuinely good answer and we will tell you so.

Local commercial photographers. Quote for a shoot rather than a file: art direction, lifestyle context, a look that belongs to your brand. More expensive per image, and a different product.

Freelance marketplaces. Much of the very low end of the published rates you will find is offshore freelance pricing quoted in other markets. It is real, it is just not comparable to a US studio day.

The honest version. Decide whether you need catalogue images or brand images before you compare anything. They are not the same job, and the price gap between them is not markup.

From behind the camera

How to spend less
without buying less

Shoot the whole catalogue at once

The fixed cost is the day. Ten products shot together cost far less each than ten products shot across three months, because you are paying to build the lighting once instead of ten times. If you know the range is coming, wait and shoot it in one block.

Bring more product than you think you need

Spare units, spare labels, a clean backup of the hero item. Product photography is unforgiving about dust, fingerprints and crooked labels, and a second unit costs you nothing while a reshoot costs a setup.

Decide the crop before the shoot, not after

Square for the grid, tall for stories, wide for the banner. We can build one setup that serves all three if we know in advance — and cannot retrofit it afterwards without shooting again.

Ask what happens to the raw files

Not because you want them; you almost certainly do not. Ask because the answer tells you how the photographer thinks about the relationship. Ours is simple: you get finished, retouched images with full commercial rights, and we keep the archive so you can come back for a different crop next year.

Questions we get

Product photography pricing

How much does product photography cost?

For a straightforward e-commerce product, expect to pay per setup rather than per photograph. Our own rate is $250 per setup — one product, one style, one to five finished images with retouching and full commercial usage included. If you have several products or want several looks, an hourly session at $625 is almost always cheaper than stacking setups.

What is a setup, and why is it priced that way?

A setup is one product photographed one way: the lighting built, the surface chosen, the product cleaned and positioned. Most of the cost of product photography is building that setup, not pressing the shutter. Once it exists, extra frames of the same product in the same look are close to free — which is why per-setup pricing usually costs a client less than per-image pricing for the same work.

Is it cheaper per image if I shoot more products at once?

Substantially. The fixed cost is the studio day: lighting, styling, retouching workflow. Ten products shot together cost far less each than ten products shot across three months. If you have a catalogue coming, shoot it in one block.

What should a product photography quote include?

Retouching, high-resolution delivery and commercial usage rights. Ours does. Watch for quotes that price the shoot low and then charge separately for retouching or for the right to use the images in advertising — that is where an apparently cheap quote gets expensive.

How long does a product shoot take?

A single-product setup is usually an hour or two including styling. A one-hour session covers unlimited products and images if the looks are simple. Turnaround on finished images is five to seven days.

Do I have to come to the studio?

No. You can ship products to us, drop them off, or we can come to you. For small goods, shipping is usually the least disruptive option and it does not change the price.

Why are online quotes for product photography so different from each other?

Because they are measuring different things. National ship-to-studio services quote per image on a white background at volume. A local commercial photographer quotes for a shoot: art direction, lifestyle context, and images that look like your brand rather than a catalogue template. Both are legitimate. Decide which you actually need before you compare numbers.

What does commercial photography cost beyond product work?

Food, beverage, brand and lifestyle work is quoted by the session or the day rather than per setup, because the variables are wider. Our commercial sessions start at $625 an hour. Tell us the deliverables and where they will run and we will quote properly rather than guess.

  • Denver product photography — the service, the styles and the full rate card.
  • Food and beverage photography — for menus, packaging and drinks work.
  • Commercial photography — brand, lifestyle and campaign work.
  • Client spotlight — who we have done this for, and what it looked like.
